workshop
among trees – memory
as part of the among trees project, i held a series of workshops for middle school classes. in collaboration with nature educators, we explored the differences between trees by studying their leaves through a playful artistic approach. students translated the organic shapes into a graphic pixel expression, which they then turned into patchwork blocks sewn by hand in line with the art installation. in collaboration with library educator mette stougaard thomsen, we also created haiko poems inspired by natural forms from the artistic forest among trees.
among trees is a collaborative project with trapholt art museum and a participatory art project where 740 contributors delivered a quilted block for the artistic forest. the forest will tour during the triangle region festival week from vejle to fredericia and haderslev. from november 21st and for the next four months, it can be experienced at trapholt art museum.
the participants were 5th grade students fromvinding school and vejle friskole, fjordbakkeskolen, krogsagerskole and skt knuds skole.
thanks to quilter lis hørlyck and hanne kramer from the danish patchwork association for contributing to the project with their professional expertise.
